To remove the console, first disconnect the battery negative lead and move the gear or selector lever to neutral, considering that adjustment may be required during the removal of the console. Start by prising out the coin holder tray in the front of the console and if applicable, pushing out the heated seat switches and disconnecting the wiring plugs. Next, unclip and pull out the oddments tray to get at the two screws at the front of the console, while taking care not to drop them. Fully apply the handbrake and carefully prise off the trim panel beneath the handbrake lever by moving it sideways to disengage the main clip, and clip the top off and remove the gaiter. Disconnect the wiring plugs you can see underneath the handbrake lever, then release the gear lever gaiter or selector panel from the console by taking off the clips in the back and feeding it down into the console. Open the rear storage compartment lid and the panel's cover in the base and pull off the exposed screws. For C70 models, remove the rear seat cushion and screws holding the rear of the console. Lift both sides of the console at the area of the cigar lighter to disengage the locating pegs, then slide the console backwards to disengage the console from under the facia, to be clear to remove it before lifting it over the gear / selector and handbrake levers. The console is held together by all kinds of nuts and screws which are visible from below, and refitting takes nothing more than the reverse of removal.
